Board of Director, Potential Treasurer

Nordic Northwest, founded in 1986, is a 501(c)(3) Nordic Cultural Organization focused on the five Nordic nations:  Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. It is the home of all things Nordic in Oregon and Southwest Washington located on its campus at 8800 SW Oleson Road in Portland.

The mission of Nordic Northwest is to: • Highlight, honor, educate, communicate, promote, and celebrate Nordic culture and traditions, ancestral, modern, and contemporary. • Provide value and serve members by developing and making available and accessible Nordic cultural and educational programming that is rich, authentic, and forward looking.

Exciting volunteer opportunity! Nordic Northwest is looking to add to its Board of Directors an individual with financial credentials, ultimately for the Treasurer position. The Board consists of highly skilled individuals representing a broad range of professional experiences. The Board engages at a high level of professionalism focusing on policy. The organization is managed by an Executive Director with in-depth experience with cultural organizations. A very competent and experienced staff accountant is responsible for performing day-to-day record keeping, preparing reports, and addressing other financial management matters.

Nordic Northwest is the home of Ole Bolle, one of the newest giant trolls in the U.S. by the Danish environmental artist, Thomas Dambo. The popular Broder Söder Restaurant, Nordic FinnWare gift shop, and Fogelbo – home of one of the largest private collections of Nordic art and antiques in the country, are also on the campus. Nearly 150 programs offered annually include lectures, concerts, classes, travel opportunities, exhibits, children’s programs, etc. Fund raising events include ScanFair – a Christmas bazaar at the Convention Center, Viking Beer Fest and Nordic Nights – both held at the campus.

Nordic Northwest is a vibrant and healthy organization.  Several hundred volunteers are engaged in its activities.  The staff is talented. Financially the organization is very sound: all invoices are paid promptly, there is no long-term debt, there are ample cash reserves, two endowment funds, investments, and real estate. The financials are alternately reviewed or audited annually – always with a “clean” opinion.
