What does receiving an OSCPA Educational Foundation scholarship mean to you? How will it help you as you continue your education?
Receiving my OSCPA scholarships has allowed me to worry less about my finances and focus more on growing as a student and professional development. I get to be more involved on campus and help tutor other students with Beta Alpha Psi!
What inspired you to pursue accounting and potentially become a CPA? Was there a person, class, experience, or moment that helped put you on this path?
My professor Amy Bourne taught my first accounting course. It was meant to be the only accounting class I’d take, but I loved the class and Amy’s passionate teaching style. Halfway through I decided to switch my major to accounting and quickly became interested in getting my CPA and the opportunities that came with it!
What do you hope to bring to the profession and our state as a future CPA?
I’m hoping to build up my skill set as a CPA and eventually bring my skills to projects within my community that I believe might make it a better place.
Who has made a difference in your journey so far? This could be a professor, mentor, family member, employer, friend, or someone else who has encouraged you along the way.
Kara Obermire is the GOAT. She is always there to support students and give guidance on our future paths. She is not only the best professor but also an incredible resource that I’m grateful to have on this journey!
Looking ahead, what is one goal, big or small, that you hope to accomplish in the next few years?
Become a licensed CPA! Also on a side-quest to find the best slice of pizza in Portland.
And just for fun: Tell us something about yourself outside of accounting! Share a hobby, hidden talent, favorite way to spend a weekend, something you’re passionate about, or anything else you’d like us to know.
My favorite way to spend the weekend is to go on a hike, cook something to enjoy with my friends, and explore new restaurants in Portland.
