Christian Garcia Badillo

University of Oregon

2026-27 OSCPA Educational Foundation scholarship recipient

What does receiving an OSCPA Educational Foundation scholarship mean to you? How will it help you as you continue your education?

Receiving an OSCPA Educational Foundation scholarship is incredibly meaningful because it recognizes the hard work and dedication I've put into my education as a first-generation college student. It helps reduce the financial stress of continuing my studies and motivates me to keep working toward earning my CPA license.

What inspired you to pursue accounting and potentially become a CPA? Was there a person, class, experience, or moment that helped put you on this path?

I was drawn to accounting because I enjoy problem-solving and understanding how financial information helps organizations make important decisions. As I gained experience through my coursework and community involvement, I realized I wanted a career where I could use those skills to make a meaningful impact on businesses and nonprofits.

What do you hope to bring to the profession and our state as a future CPA?

As a future CPA, I hope to bring integrity, reliability, and a genuine desire to help others succeed. I want to use my skills to support Oregon businesses and community organizations while helping them make informed financial decisions that create lasting impact.

Who has made a difference in your journey so far? This could be a professor, mentor, family member, employer, friend, or someone else who has encouraged you along the way.

My family has had the greatest influence on my journey by encouraging me to pursue opportunities and never lose sight of my goals. As a first-generation college student, I am
grateful for the sacrifices they have made to support me, and their belief in my potential has motivated me to work hard and pursue a career as a CPA.

Looking ahead, what is one goal, big or small, that you hope to accomplish in the next few years?

One of my biggest goals is to complete my Master of Accounting degree, earn my CPA license, and begin a career in public accounting. Reaching that milestone would allow me to continue growing professionally while creating opportunities for myself and giving back to the communities that have supported me along the way.

And just for fun: Tell us something about yourself outside of accounting! Share a hobby, hidden talent, favorite way to spend a weekend, something you’re passionate about, or anything else you’d like us to know.

When I'm not studying accounting, you'll usually find me planning my next trip, working out, watching movies, playing video games, or spending time with family and friends. One of the most meaningful parts of my college experience has been working with SAIL (U of O pre-college immersive summer programs and year-round mentoring programs to inspire Oregon high school students to pursue, enroll and succeed in higher education) and helping underrepresented students feel supported as they pursue their educational goals.
