Theresa Bakker

Terry O. Bakker, CPA, EA, LTC is the owner of O’Leary’s Tax Service, Ltd. She graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration: Accounting. Terry is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Washington and Oregon, as well as holding a license with the IRS as an Enrolled Agent, and a Tax Consultant’s license with the State of Oregon. She has over 30 years’ experience in the accounting and tax industry. Terry has been assisting customers with tax filings, representation before the IRS, accounting, and various other services since graduating from college. 

In addition to her dedication to her clients, Terry has a commitment to her profession. Terry is the Past President of the Oregon Association of Independent Accountants, the past chairperson of the OAIA Education committee, the representative to the IRS Stakeholder Liaison group in Portland, the former Administrative Chair for the Leadership and Development Committee of the National Society of Accountants, and a former trustee for the NSA’s Scholarship Foundation. Terry speaks nationally on income tax matters to benefit other professionals as a presenter for TaxSpeaker. Terry is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Association of Independent Accountants. 

When not on the road or at the office, Terry spends time with her husband, Bubba, two children, and two grandchildren.

Steve Scranton

Steve Scranton is the Chief Investment Officer & Economist for Washington Trust Bank and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation with over 35 years of investment and economic experience.

As Washington Trust Bank’s Chief Investment Officer, Steve is responsible for management of the Portfolio Management Group and actively participates on committees within the bank to help design strategies and policies related to investments. As the economist for Washington Trust Bank, Steve participates in public speaking engagements, as well as authoring multiple communications, to keep clients and the public informed of economic and investment market conditions. Throughout the Pacific Northwest, Steve is a well-known speaker on the economic conditions and the world financial markets.

Daniel Mayo

Dan Mayo is a Partner with over 25 years of professional tax experience in federal, international, and financial products taxation. As the Lead for Withum's National Tax Services practice, he helps businesses structure their affairs and plan transactions to minimize federal income taxes. He is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, and cross-border transactions, and he represents individuals and businesses in tax controversies with the IRS. Dan also serves as an expert witness in litigation involving tax issues.

Dan is a recognized expert in the areas of Qualified Small Business Stock (QSBS) and the Employee Retention Credit (ERC), and he co-leads Withum's ERC Group. He keeps a pulse on federal income tax matters and upcoming legislation, and not only is he a thought leader within the Firm, but he is also an adjunct tax professor at Georgetown University Law Center and a frequent contributor to Forbes, writing on all things tax and sharing best practices for minimizing taxes for businesses and HNW individuals.

As a tax professor at Georgetown University Law Center and an approved arbitrator for FINRA, Dan has an affinity for sharing his knowledge with others. He is a frequent speaker on webinars and at external tax conferences, and he writes for tax publications like the Daily Tax Report and Tax Notes Today. Previously, Dan served as the Chair of the Banking & Savings Institutions Tax Committee of the American Bar Association's Tax Section.

Outside of the office, Dan's hobbies include pickleball, tennis, swimming, and most importantly, spending time with family.

Nicolo Pinoli, Novogradac & Company LLP

Nicolo Pinoli

Nicolo Pinoli is a partner in the Portland, Ore., office of Novogradac, where he specializes in affordable
housing and community development, including the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC), new
markets tax credit (NMTC), historic rehabilitation tax credit (HTC) and opportunity zones (OZ). Mr. Pinoli
has extensive experience in a wide range of services, including financial statement audits; tax return
preparation; writing NMTC and LIHTC applications; LIHTC, NMTC, OZ and HTC transaction underwriting;
consulting on LIHTC, NMTC, OZ and HTC transaction structuring; and LIHTC, NMTC and OZ compliance. A
frequent speaker at industry conferences, Mr. Pinoli also delivers several webinars every year on topics
such as NMTC exit strategies, NMTC allocation applications and LIHTC Year 15 strategies. He has
published many articles on various technical issues confronting the affordable housing and community
development industries, and serves as a technical editor of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
Handbook and Novogradac’s Tax Reform Resource Guide. Mr. Pinoli received a bachelor’s degree in
accounting and a master’s degree in professional accounting from Brigham Young University and is
licensed in California, Oregon and Washington as a certified public accountant.

Eric Kodesch

Eric is a partner in the Stoel Rives Tax Section. His practice regularly involves assisting clients in transaction or representing clients before the Oregon Tax Court in matters concerning unitary taxation, Public Law No. 86-272, property tax, property tax exemptions, and other business tax matters. Valerie Sasaki, Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP

Valerie Sasaki

Valerie Sasaki is a partner with Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP where she chairs the Taxation Practice. She focuses her practice on resolving complex tax matters for clients with state and federal revenue agencies. She regularly speaks and writes on tax topics of interest to her. Ms. Sasaki is a member of the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Utah State Bars.  She regularly appears on behalf of clients in US Tax Court and the Oregon Tax Court.

She is a "Big-4" accounting alumna who worked as a State and Local Tax Manager for KPMG LLP as well as with the Miller Nash LLP tax department.  Valerie has served as Chair of Portland Tax Forum, The Oregon State Bar Taxation Section, and the Oregon State Bar Business Law Section.  Valerie has served on the laws committee of the Oregon State Bar's Taxation Section since 2003. She is now involved in leading an Oregon Laws Commission Project to modernize and restate Oregon's Limited Liability Company Act.  

Valerie serves and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Taxation with: Portland State University's Masters in Tax Program; Northwestern School of Law, Lewis & Clark College;  Portland Community College; and the University of Oregon School of Law. She is a fellow of the American College of Taxation and has been recognized as an outstanding tax attorney by the SuperLawyers and Best Lawyers in America organizations. 

Valerie received her BA degree, magna cum laude, from Tulane University, earned her JD degree from University of Oregon School of Law and her LLM in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law.

Gregory White, Cutting Edge Tax Strategies LLC

Gregory White

Greg White, CPA-WA, has practiced tax accounting for more than 35 years. He is founder, shareholder, and President of CPA firm WGN, P.S. in Seattle, Washington, which serves a successful entrepreneurial client base. He also owns and operates State of the Art Tax, LLC, a tax education company. Greg is in his tenth year as an adjunct professor at the Golden Gate University's Seattle Campus where he teaches capital assets, tax accounting, and individual taxation. Greg is licensed to practice in and has argued cases before the U.S. Tax Court. He has been named "Top 50" IRS Practitioner by CPA Magazine.

Greg has extensively presented tax CPE, predominantly on the west coast, over the last decade and has written and presented live courses and webinars for CCH and others nationally. He has presented tax topics in the Pacific Northwest on TV including spots on KOMO TV, King TV, and Northwest Cable News. He is frequently in contact with Treasury, IRS, and other top government officials in Washington, D.C. as to late breaking guidance from the government and has been involved in making recommendations to them to help practically shape federal tax legislation and administrative guidance.
