Sara Winter is a Shareholder and the Practice Manager of the Estate Planning practice group at Gevurtz Menashe in Portland, OR. A Texas native, Sara relocated to Portland in 2020 after a decade of practicing law in Houston.
Sara approaches her work knowing each client has different needs, and given the complexity of estate planning work, she strives to ensure each client understands the work being done—and more importantly, the mission behind it—in a practical and sensitive manner. With an LL.M. in Taxation, Sara uses her expertise to place a special focus on tax planning for all of her clients, whether it is income, gift, or estate related.?

Jackson Lewis, Northwest Trustee & Management ServicesJackson Lewis
Jackson joined Northwest Trustee & Management Services as our Oregon Market Leader and Senior
Trust Officer. This new role capitalizes on Jackson’s two decades of experience in the fields of estate
planning and fiduciary administration. Jackson is an attorney who began his legal career in commercial
litigation. He then moved into estate planning and administration after handling a probate litigation case
in which he successfully recovered stolen assets for a beneficiary in need. As a partner at Portland law
firm, Tonkon Torp, Jackson led the firm’s Wealth Planning practice group. He moved into fiduciary
administration and spent five years as a Fiduciary Advisory Specialist and Senior Trust Advisor at Wells
Fargo Wealth & Investment Management.
Jackson received his BA from Harvard University and his JD from the University of Michigan. He currently
serves on the board of the Terwilliger Plaza Foundation and volunteers with the Moot Court program of
Civics Learning Project. He previously served on the board of the Oregon Historical Society. Jackson and
his wife caravan between Portland and Sunriver with their golden retriever and elderly cat. They have
two children, one in high school and one in college, who will join them occasionally (usually under
duress).

Jenn Buman
Jennifer Cook-Buman holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Washington with a pre-med focus, and an MBA from Marylhurst University. She began her career in corporate America, gaining experience in both management and sales before transitioning to senior housing and care. In 2007, Jennifer founded a successful senior housing and care referral agency, providing guidance to seniors and their families through complex transitions. In 2024, she sold her business to 1st CHOICE and joined the agency full-time as a Housing & Care Advisor serving the Portland Metro area. She has served as Board Treasurer for the Metropolitan Senior Network and remains active in OSRAA, a leading association of referral agencies in Oregon. Jennifer combines her business acumen with deep expertise in senior housing to support families and professional partners navigating critical care decisions.

We will describe the various senior housing settings from independent living to more advanced care providers. Included in the discussion will be the cost ranges, and different payor options available. The barriers to moving, and identifying clues as to when the ‘right’ time to make this transition will also be presented.
