As CPAs increasingly integrate AI into tax preparation, financial forecasting, audit analytics, and client advisory work, several critical legal intersections demand your attention. Data-privacy obligations are front and center: when AI tools ingest sensitive client financial data, firms must navigate IRS §7216, state breach-notification statutes, CCPA/CPRA, and GDPR requirements to avoid both regulatory fines and malpractice exposure. Professional liability is equally pressing—courts are already asking who bears responsibility when an AI-generated tax position triggers an IRS penalty or an AI-assisted audit opinion proves flawed. Ethics, vendor contracts, insurance coverage, and the duty to supervise AI outputs are dynamic as emerging AI regulations will soon impose new transparency, explainability, and risk-assessment obligations directly on accounting practices will let you harness AI’s power while protecting your license, your firm, and your clients.

Expense allocation is critical for nonprofits because it ensures transparency and accountability in how resources are used, which is essential for maintaining donor trust. Proper allocation allows organizations to demonstrate that funds are being used efficiently to support their mission, helps satisfy reporting obligations under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and provides stakeholders with a clear picture of program versus administrative spending. Accurate allocation also supports better decision-making and enables nonprofits to communicate their impact effectively to donors and the public. In this session we will go over the important factors to consider for expense allocation and how the present the information in your financial statements.
