Some summer day camps, childcare options could qualify for tax credit

June 02, 2023

As summer break approaches for students, the Oregon Department of Revenue wants taxpayers to know that some childcare expenses, including day camps and childcare provided inside or outside your home, might qualify you for the Oregon working family household and dependent care (WFHDC) tax credit. Qualifying expenses don’t include summer school or tutoring, sports camps, and overnight camps.

The WFHDC credit is a refundable tax credit available to low- and middle-income working families with qualifying expenses for household services or dependent care, including some childcare expenses.

Eligible taxpayers claiming the credit must check WFHDC tables and use the WFHDC instructions before filing their tax return. Make sure to keep your receipts in case we ask for proof of payment.

The IRS offers more information about day camp and other childcare expenses in this video.
