Was it worth it to get your CPA credential?
Yes, absolutely. The CPA exam was a crash course for me in preparation and accounting/business information beyond what I learned in school. While real world experience was key to my career growth, the CPA exam and CPE have provided me with an indispensable knowledge base. Also, because of the reputation of the CPA credential in the financial world, it opens up doors and opportunities that may not otherwise be there.

Who inspired you along the way?
During my time at Perkins & Company, the partners focused on professional and personal development that had a profound impact on my career, and gave me an advantage as I moved on from public accounting. They also inspired me to get involved with volunteer board opportunities that utilize my experience and expertise in accounting.

What do you love about your job at Digital Trends?
I love my job because I am never bored at Digital Trends. The diversity in my role and responsibilities, as well as the ever-changing nature of the media industry create a fun and dynamic work environment. I also really enjoy the people I work with, and the people that I have connected with throughout my career. I have learned and experienced so much, and that is due to the people and the opportunities they provided me.

What is the most helpful part of being an OSCPA member?
The most helpful part about being an OSCPA member is the connections. I am the only CPA at Digital Trends, and therefore having the opportunity to connect and network with other CPAs has provided me with a lot of insight that I apply in my work. It's difficult to keep up with the industry, but the networking and CPE allow for an easier way to keep pace.

What advice would you give a new CPA?
Jump at any opportunity to learn, and don’t shy away from areas outside of your comfort zone. Whether it’s engaging with CPE, or exploring other functions at your job, you'll be surprised at how many topics or areas outside of accounting and finance can be applicable to your career growth. I have found enjoyment and growth in many unexpected areas of my business and industry, and pushing myself early in my career for more exposure was key.
