The Financial Analyst Business Partner will partner with the Development and Marketing teams to develop and implement best financial practices for all revenue pathways. This person will be participating in cross department meetings to identify areas where they can make the bridge to finance seamless. The Financial Analyst Business Partner (FABP) collaborates from the planning phase of all the programs and events through the complete cycle to the collection of donations. Primary duties include: performing revenue accounting and analysis, maintaining receivables, facilitating donor receipt processing, determining proper revenue recognition for in kind donations, and providing financial support at fundraising events. This person will also be the back up to our Senior Accountant who is responsible for Compliance & Reporting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Acts as primary liaison to partner and collaborate with Development & Marketing Departments to: (1) ensure proper revenue recognition and accurate revenue transaction reporting, (2) prepare financial analyses and modeling and (3) develop most efficient processes
  • Responsible for all donation collection processes and procedures, including cash receipt processing, credit card processing, revenue and receipt accounting, reconciliations and exceptions. This role ensures all receipts are secured and processed timely, efficiently and accurately.
  • Attends development events in the community with the Development & Marketing Departments to oversee donation collection activities and secure assets
  • Supports grant accounting through preparation of actual to budget reports for grant and contract funds including the analysis of spending, variances, and forecasts as necessary. Works with development and program staff to assure compliance of grants and contracts.
  • Maintains financial records, processes transactions, and completes reconciliations for bequests, trusts, estates, annuities and other planned giving.
  • Completes ROI and other financial analyses for all Development and Marketing events
  • Partners with Development and Marketing departments to prepare annual budgets.
  • Develops effective partnerships and procedures to ensure key operational and financial targets are met through cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Provides backup for the Senior Accountant responsible for Compliance and Reporting and other finance department roles.
  • Performs special projects and duties as assigned by the VP-Finance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent education.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and capable of analyzing data with creativity and innovation in mind
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong business relationships.
  • Strong customer service and innovation orientation.
  • Advanced level Excel and financial reporting skills and intermediate level computer systems management.
  • Able to understand and to properly apply non-profit revenue recognition and net asset concepts.
  • Able to perform mathematical functions and to comprehend interrelationship of various computer functions.
  • Able to process complex verbal and written instructions and translate them into a series of logical problem solving steps.
  • Able to handle sensitive financial and personnel data according to the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Able to evaluate the efficiency of programs, systems and procedures and make recommendations for change when needed.
  • Must be willing and able to learn and implement new processes and systems on the job as required for quality improvement and organizational direction.
  • Exceptional initiative and discipline.
  • Must be willing and able to cooperate as an effective team member in order to accomplish department and job responsibilities.

Preferred

  • Non-profit revenue accounting experience; operating budget greater than $5M.
  • Exposure to fundraising and or marketing functions
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting, Salesforce.com and/or fundraising software.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed concurrently in an office and animal shelter environment.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend or evening work required to support special events and during busier times of the year.
  • Noise exposure is light to moderate.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting, frequently 6-8 hours per day.
  • Prolonged exposure to video terminal and computer hardware.
  • Ability to perform mathematical functions and to comprehend interrelationship of various computer functions.
  • Able to process complex verbal and written instructions and translate them into a series of logical problem solving steps.
  • Daily keyboarding for prolonged periods of time, including use of electronic peripheral equipment and ten-key pad.
  • Ability to utilize phone and email systems, photocopiers, scanners, postage meter and other small office equipment.
  • Ability to place and retrieve information in and from file folders and file cabinets.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25-30 lbs.
  • Ability to remain calm while working under stressful, time sensitive conditions.
  • Occasional driving on public roadways in varying weather and traffic conditions.
