Join the Oregon Society of CPAs and receive the following benefits:

Professional Development (CPE)

The Society's Professional Development (CPE) department offers more than 250 seminars and workshops, various computer classes and specialized conferences. A complete course catalog is published annually, and the online searchable catalog is always up-to-date and current with new course information and additions. Video and audio self-study courses are also available.

 


  • Save on CPE - OSCPA members receive substantial discounts on CPE courses. On many classes, you can save 25% or more on registration fees when you are a member of the OSCPA. It's possible to pay for your membership with the money you save.
  • Governmental/Not-for-Profit Course Calendars - The OSCPA schedules courses that meet the requirements set by the Oregon State Board of Accountancy Municipal Roster. Not-For-Profit courses do not apply to the Municipal Roster, but may apply as Yellow Book CPE depending on the individual’s unique practice environment.
  • Ethics Exam - The OSCPA maintains an inventory of the AICPA course on Professional Ethics to ensure immediate availability for Oregon CPA candidates seeking licensure. Purchasing the course locally significantly reduces the shipping wait time.

Publications

The OSCPA continues to offer timely and newsworthy publications to our members such as The Accountant magazine and eFlash, our email newsletter sent to our members twice monthly. In addition to news publications, the OSCPA offers technical publications to help members with various issues from GASB 34 implementation to Document Retention Guidelines. You can be assured that the editorial staff and member Project Teams are striving to offer you the best possible information available.

Directories

  • Online Membership Directory
    The OSCPA Online Membership Directory gives you access to more than 4,600 accounting professionals. The online directory members to easily find other members using a variety of sorts and searches which will pull members by their location, business name or service niche.
  • OSCPA White Pages
    Printed annually, the OSCPA White Pages - Membership Directory is a complimentary alphabetical and geographical listing of all OSCPA members. There is no charge for the first copy per annum, additional copies can be ordered for $75.00 each.

Professional News

  • The Oregon Certified Public Accountant
    A magazine geared toward Oregon Accountants published 6 times a year and mailed directly to you, and also available online to view as a PDF. Read articles written by Oregon accountants and industry professionals, keep up with the latest legislative action, see Members in Motion, and advertise jobs, vacation rentals and other classifieds.   • Members in Motion
    Share your accomplishments and your business by informing fellow members about your important professional moves and community involvement. Members can contact Carmel to submit these types of statements which are printed in the magazine.
  • eFlash
    eFlash is a free benefit to our members and delivered via email twice monthly bringing the latest professional news, as well as information on legislative and regulatory matters, OSCPA member benefits, services and activities.
  • Corporate News for CPAs
    Corporate News is a free benefit to our members compiled monthly and delivered via email. The OSCPA strives to keep our members up to date with news relevant to CPAs in corporate America.

Technical Publications

  • Practice Management Survey - These survey results highlight and measure key factors that accounting firms rely on to gauge their performance and effectiveness and are a benchmark for CPA firms. The bound book provides Oregon and Western region results key to firms. The publication is $40 for members and $75 for nonmembers.
  • Document Handling and Records Retention (Last revised June, 2005) - These guidelines provide CPAs with general information on a broad range of issues related to CPA records management and retention. They are intended for use as guidelines and reference, but should not be miscontrued as legal advice. Prepared for the Oregon Society of CPAs by Mark E. Friedman, Attorney at Law, Garvey Schubert Barer, Portland, Oregon. Members can download the guidelines at no cost. Marketing Tools

The OSCPA is dedicated to promoting the CPA profession and CPA services throughout Oregon. Members may utilize these marketing tools to promote: client understanding of the profession, job openings, resumes and services.

Brochures

Market your CPA services. The Society offers two marketing brochures to help you promote your business. These brochures are available for members to utilize in your own marketing programs and can be imprinted with your firm name, logo and contact information.

Classified and Display Advertising

Advertise with the OSCPA and reach the highly influential market that reads The Accountant magazine. Rent your vacation home, market your unique services, or find a tenant by placing a classified ad which is posted online and printed in the OSCPA magazine. This venue has deeply discounted rates (50%) for members of the OSCPA. You can also promote your business through a display ad in the OSCPA magazine or an online ad on the OSCPA Web site.

  • Find-a-CPA™ Directory - Build your client base while providing needed assistance to the public. This online database allows individuals and businesses to search for CPA firms by location, industry and client services. Enrollment is year-round and is a free member benefit. Join today!
  • JobLink - Public and industry accounting positions are posted to the OSCPA's JobLink service daily, where they may be viewed by OSCPA members as well as non-members. Those who routinely use JobLink affirm that this service is an indispensable tool for recruiting high quality candidates. The OSCPA provides a 50% discount on JobLink to members and you can reach your target market more efficiently than public newspapers. This section of the Web site consistently ranks in the top ten most viewed pages on the OSCPA Web site.
  • ResumeLink - Post your resume for 30 days at no charge on the OSCPA Web site. Resumès can be reviewed online by potential employers, benefiting both members seeking jobs and members seeking employees.
  • Peer Consulting Directory  - As an OSCPA member, you’re invited to join the Peer Consulting directory. This directory allows you, as a member, to designate specialty subjects about which you are willing to speak to other member CPAs. The directory allows those who visit the directory to see you as a specialist in a particular area, and also gives you the chance to ask questions of other experts. Offer fellow members the opportunity to consult with your firm for a limited time and increase your contacts in the CPA profession.

Events

  • Career Showcase - OSCPA Career Showcase gives students, firms, industry organizations, colleges and universities a chance to all meet in one place. The expo-style event allows students to meet freely with employers.
  • Circle of Excellence - OSCPA honors Top Accounting Students, Top scorers on the CPA Exam and OSCPA Educational Foundation Scholarship recipients once a year with professors and firms who support these individuals. The annual dinner and award presentation is held in the spring each year and always proves to be an exciting event for everyone attending.
  • New Professionals Networking Events - Have fun and make new acquaintances at these quarterly events. These events are designed for CPAs that have been in the profession for seven years or less. Previous events have been held at such locations as local sporting events and brew pubs. Come, meet your colleagues and have fun!
  • Strategic Leadership Forum / Annual Meeting - The Strategic Leadership Forum gives the OSCPA leadership a chance to meet at the beginning of the new fiscal year where they have an opportunity to learn about the resources available, issues to be addressed in the upcoming year and projects completed from the previous year. The annual meeting is also held during the forum. All members are welcome to attend the annual meeting.
  • Town Halls - Held every fall around the state, Town Halls give members a chance to meet with board members and society management to discuss current events in the profession.

Leadership, Networking and Volunteerism

The OSCPA sponsors many team activities which provide opportunities for professional networking and leadership development. In addition, the Society sponsors various member activities throughout the year, ranging from sporting events to professional issues updates. For more information, check out the Society Events calendar.

Teams

  • Strategic Interest Teams - The purposes of Strategic Interest Teams (SITs) are linked to the Society's strategic objectives and mission. OSCPA Strategic Interest Teams (SITs) are appointed by the OSCPA Chair and may have multi-year terms determined by each team's specific goals and objectives.
  • Project Teams - Project Teams provide a framework in which CPAs can use their expertise and share ideas, while benefiting personally and giving back to their community. They are action groups that typically work on specific projects or activities often within an established timeframe. Project Team members work on a variety of professional issues and events.

Programs

  • Coaching Program - Through the OSCPA Coaching Program, members encourage, guide and help students develop career advancement skills needed for a smooth transition from college to the CPA profession. The Coaching Program is a richly rewarding experience for both coaches and students.

Government Relations and Advocacy

The OSCPA actively represents members' political interests at both the state and national level. The Society uses position statements and provides representation before various governmental bodies, such as Oregon's federal officials, Oregon Legislature, and the Oregon Department of Revenue.

  • Advocacy Programs - As an OSPCA member, you’ll be represented by the The Oregon Certified Public Accountants Legislative Action Committee (OCPA). The committee lobbies for laws that protect Oregon CPAs as well as taxpayers. This vital program’s success continues to be influential in Oregon legislation and benefits you by:
    • Helping to reduce and control the cost of doing business.
    • Keeping government regulations and paperwork burdens manageable.
    • Protecting and where appropriate expanding member markets.
  • Legislative Report - Published prior to and after the Oregon legislative session, this report keeps members updated on the issues the OSCPA monitors on behalf of the profession.
  • Legislators’ Tax Guide - This guide is provided to Oregon’s elected officials to answer commonly asked tax questions pertaining to their role as a member of Oregon’s legislature.
  • Reconnect Legislation - Recommendations are made and testimony is given to the Oregon Department of Revenue to assist with reconnecting federal and state tax legislation.
  • Peer Review - The OSCPA administers the AICPA and Oregon State Board of Accountancy peer review programs and provides a variety of services to members who desire to have their firms’ practices and procedures reviewed by other CPAs with experience in the peer review process.
