OSCPA Mission Statement & Purpose

The OSCPA Mission Statement:

The Oregon Society of CPAs is a voluntary association of CPAs engaged in public practice, industry, government and education. In addition, prospective CPAs may hold membership as affiliate members. The Society's mission is to:

  • act in a representative capacity for the profession,
  • encourage the maintenance of high professional standards,
  • increase public awareness and understanding of CPAs and CPA services,
  • support excellence in accounting education,
  • assist members in professional and personal development, and
  • enhance professional cooperation.

Purpose:

Regular members of the Society are generally holders of the Certified Public Accountant certificate issued by the State of Oregon, or by other states provided certain eligibility requirements have been met. Affiliate membership in the Society includes students, CPA candidates, inactive, and uncertified associate members. For membership definitions, visit www.orcpa.org/dues.html. Members subscribe to the rules of professional conduct embodied in the Society's Bylaws and subject themselves to discipline thereunder. By supporting the Society through membership and participation in its activities, the members give evidence of their interest in the welfare and development of their profession in the state and the public interest.

The Society carries on active programs devoted to the improvement of its members' proficiency. Recognizing the increasing need and importance of their profession, the members contribute freely of their time and abilities for the public and the profession.

The membership is nearly 5,000. Approximately 10% of the membership reside either outside of the state or continental limits of the United States.
